An unplifting and empowering book about colourism and sisterhood.

This is a beautiful story about two friends (Kiki and Amrita) who have siblings getting married at the same time. Throughout the story we are introduced to the idea of colourism through the actions of Amrita’s Aunties who offer up a range of old wives tales and comments. These are all dismissed by mum and there is a clear message that our skin is perfect just as it is no matter the colour. This is a brilliant tale of friendship and the illustrations are beautiful and bold. The colours are so vibrant. The end of the book has a useful guide that explains colourism to children and adults
