Melanin Child Stories
Melanin Child Stories is an online independent, Black-owned bookshop based in Essex that specialises in the sale of Black children's books, which aims to make all children feel represented when it comes to literature. Our journey started through a pop-up shop hosted by SASBS Events, who were willing to support Small Business. Thanks to the amazing feedback and encouragement from costumers, Melanin Child Stories kept on growing.

OUR FOUNDER
Suzy Williams Founder & CEO of Melanin Child Stories.
Suzy Williams Founder and CEO of Melanin Child Stories, a brand designed to represent the uniqueness of children of colour when it comes to literature. It was a priority for Suzy to lead-by-example in order to uplift, advocate and inspire children to achieve greatness.

The idea of Melanin Chid Stories emerged from the absence of diversity in children's books in schools, libraries and retail shops. Suzy shared that one time she was desperately struggling to 10find books that inspired her kids. This prompted her to create an online store where she offers multiple books to represent a range of children of colour - and Melanin Child Stories was born.

OUR MISSION AND VALUES

The company's core values are to make books accessibly, representable and affordable to every family, while its sole mission is to become the leading online bookseller. And to create a platform for Black Authors whether they work for a publisher or are self-publishers and help them reach a greater audience.

OUR VISION
It was crucial for Suzy that children of colour feel proud of their heritage and identity by seeing themselves and their culture more often reflected in the books they read. And for ALL children to have more inclusive bookshelves in an effort to combat racism by raising moral and empathetic human beings, and book lovers from day one!
